On Saturday, 25 May 2024, the Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre’s ‘Sponsor A Blanket Project: Winter Warmth’ was launched across areas in southern KwaZulu-Natal and northern Eastern Cape.
With a warm welcome from hosts, the team began distributions in Kokstad, in which 165 blankets and snack packs were given out from the local masjid.
The next location was Cedarville - a small town in the Eastern Cape - in which 40 blankets and snack packs were distributed to residents from the Cedarville Madressah. The team’s visit was met with thanks and appreciation from the recipients as well as the host, who stressed that the initiative united the small community.
Matatiele was next, in which the team engaged in distributions from the Matatiele Masjid after a warm welcome. An amount of 105 blankets and snack packs were handed out and met with heartwarming words of appreciation.
On the return trip home, the team made an impromptu stop at Masjid-E-Bilal in Boboyi. After joining in the salaah, the team distributed the remaining blankets and snack packs to the brothers present. Additionally, the team handed an older sister who was passing by the masjid a small gift from the organisation, which she received with tears of gratitude. Though their presence and donations were received with unabashed kindness by all, this small encounter was the highlight of the team’s trip.
With the grace and mercy of Allah, the Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre strives to continue work like this to give back to destitute and deserving communities.
The ‘Sponsor a Blanket’ initiative’s next trip is scheduled to take place across the Free State on 1 June 2024.
