Youth of the Ummah Qurbani Programme 2026 a Roaring Success

On Saturday, 16 May 2026, the Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre male youth group, Youth of the Ummah (YOU), held a successful Qurbani programme in Stanger.

A total of 73 young Muslims attended the event - 33 participants from Durban and 40 from Stanger - which aimed to educate youth on the practical and spiritual aspects of the sacred act of Qurbani, instill the spirit of sacrifice, and provide a platform for bonding and learning in a fun and engaging environment.

The group departed from the Darul Ihsan Centre in Sea Cow Lake, Durban, in the morning, convening for a live Qurbani demonstration at Desai’s Farm. Attendees were advised on different livestock breeds, how to determine the age and suitability of the animal, intention, etiquette, the Sunnah method of slaughter, and how to divide the meat of the animal into three parts, amongst other vital insights for them to take note of.

Thereafter, the esteemed Mufti Talha Sheikh led a detailed, step-by-step presentation on the rulings of Qurbani, followed by a live demonstration of it, of which the youth observed. At each step, Mufti paused to explain its wisdom, as well as to answer any questions they may have.

Following the visit to the farm, the YOU and attendees proceeded to Zakariya Muslim School (ZMS), who welcomed them warmly and facilitated the rest of the programme.

The youth engaged in a soccer match on the ZMS field, which was a great opportunity for physical exercise, teamwork, and bonding. Attendees were thereafter treated to a scrumptious lunch.

In the ZMS Musallah, a short Qurbani presentation was delivered, reinforcing lessons learned earlier in the day. Key points covered first aid for common Qurbani injuries, as well as the story of Ibrahim (AS) and Ismail (AS), highlighting the importance of Qurbani, and ways in which the youth can embody the spirit of sacrifice in their daily lives.

The group departed from ZMS in the afternoon, in which the event concluded.

The YOU extends sincere appreciation for all participants for their excellent conduct, enthusiasm, and engagement throughout the long day; to parents for entrusting their sons to the youth group; to the Ulama and facilitators from

Zakariya Muslim School who graciously hosted the group and guests; and to Desai’s Farm and Mufti Talha Sheikh for hosting the live demo and delivering a clear, practical presentation that brought life to the rulings and spirit of Qurbani.

May Allah accept the Qurbani of all participants and their families, and make this programme a means of guidance and growth for the Muslim youth.
