The event opened with a beautiful Qirat recitation pertinent to the topic, which was Muharram, and specifically the day of Ashura. Important Islamic events such as Musa (AS) parting and crossing the sea, as well as the story of Nuh (AS)’s were shared in detail; each delving into the incredible theme of trust in Allah. Powerful lessons to avoid arrogance, to believe in the divine ability of Allah, and to constantly seek forgiveness from Him were imparted.
Virtues and merits of the day of Ashura were also discussed, encouraging the youth to observe fasting during these days, which are acts of obedience and sacrifice beloved to Allah. Additionally, gifting one’s family was explained to not only be reserved for material items. Generosity can also take the form of using one's time for good deeds, in charity, and Du’a, amongst many other beneficial acts.
Additionally, they were also advised on what to avoid during the auspicious day, such as emulating the practices of the nonbelievers, and engaging in unsubstantiated actions, amongst others.
The final segment of the event placed an emphasis on planning for Barakah in one’s life.
The concept of Barakah was explained in detail as divine blessings, and was emphasised to bring prosperity and goodness into their lives. Upon sharing the many daily and spiritual benefits of planning, the young attendees were tasked with creating their own ‘Barakah board’.
A variety of colourful and creative craft materials were provided, helping them to tap into their more artistic sides and to create a fun board to help them plan their days with Barakah at the centre of them. Guidelines were also provided to aid and inspire the girls if they so wished, with the friendly DOU team helping to foster their creativity every step of the way.
With the Barakah boards completed, the girls were provided scrumptious refreshments, and were allowed time to socialise with one another. The event closed thereafter with an encompassing and heartfelt Du’a.
“We loved it,” remarked an attendee with her friend. “Our favourite part was the Barakah board. We love planning.”
“I liked it. It was good,” said another.
