Following the bombardment of his personal library by Israeli forces, Mikdad created a makeshift workshop in the camp, in which he binds and repairs damaged Qur’ans using simple tools. The holy books are recovered from rubble and debris of homes and mosques destroyed in the ongoing war.
Despite living in poverty himself, his services are free, and his efforts inspire many across Gaza and the rest of the world.
