Of the stations, seven are throughout the KuGompo corridor, whereas the other three are in Gqeberha. Vandalised and having deteriorated since the COVID-19 hard lockdown, the government - through PRASA - upgraded buildings, restored water and sanitation facilities, as well as installed solar power backup to the stations.

Creecy stated, “Stations now have access control, CCTV, alarms and security monitoring, along with new signage, fire-fighting equipment, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

“These stations belong to the people of this region. They were rebuilt with public funds, by local hands, for local commuters.”
