The team was received by Ms PBK Magagula, and after a brief introduction to all those present, distributed blankets to 20 children. Additionally, snacks packs were also handed out, consisting of sweets, chips, biscuits, and bottled water to keep them sustained.
On behalf of the children who received these items, Ms Magagula thanked the Darul Ihsan Team deeply for the donations; the children also responded with joy and waving hands, acknowledging the team’s efforts.
Another distribution followed on Saturday, 18 July 2026. The Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre Outreach Team visited the Uphephille Creche in the Banana City Informal Settlement. Situated on the border of UKZN Westville campus, the team was met by Ms Themekile Duze; coordinator of the Creche; and members of Westville SAPS.
Following a brief introduction and warm welcome from the members present, the outreach team distributed 40 blankets and 40 snack packs to all of the eager children, whilst SAPS members distributed delicious ice creams and ice lollies.
Together with SAPS Westville, the team proceeded towards another location within the informal settlement to visit and spend time with the senior citizens. After setting up equipment in an open ground, Sergeant Khathi introduced the outreach team to all those present, with a member of the crowd warmly welcoming them.
A short but insightful talk presented by Sergeant Khathi and Abdul Saeed Shaik was followed by community members raising issues regarding drug use amongst the youth. A suggestion for a youth programme was put forward for the near future, and was received graciously. The senior citizens thereafter received blankets and snack packs from the outreach team, who engaged in traditional songs to thank the Darul Ihsan members as well as SAPS.
Later in the day, 450 hot, scrumptious meals and cold drinks were distributed to all residents at the Banana City Informal Settlement, bringing joy and hope to the community.
SAPS Westville expressed gratitude to the Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre for partnering with them for these activities and outreach, and hopes to foster a beneficial relationship, as well as to encourage safer communities.
