As part of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project; which seeks to facilitate providing water to South Africa, produce hydropower for Lesotho, and will help the agriculture and tourism sectors; the event proved a landmark achievement.
The new 825 metre bridge will foster connection and long-term regional integration between South Africa and Lesotho. The new dam and tunnel, as part of the major project, are still in the process of completion.
