Schreiber said during the presentation, “Imagine never again needing to remember that your passport is expiring. Six months before it does, Home Affairs contacts you through your digital ID, and only if you have been contacted, with your renewal application already prepared and ready for submission. You verify it with your face, make payment and your new passport is delivered directly to your door.

“No queue, no form, and now not even an application.”

Additionally, the green ID book will be a discontinued form of identification from 31 March 2028.
