Q: Does a person performing Hajj need to offer a sacri?ce Qand Qurbani?
A: There are two types of sacri?ces during the days of Hajj. AOne is the Udhiyyah (Qurbani) and the other is Dam-us-Shukr (a compulsory sacrifice for being blessed with the opportunity of combining and making Umrah and Hajj on one journey).
1. Udhiyyah (Qurbani) is compulsory upon every adult sane Muslim person who has in assets excluding hawaij Asliyyah to the
value of Nisab on any of the days of Qurbani provided he is not a Musafir (Shari' Traveller). Hence, Qurbani can still be obligatory
on those Hujjaj who are not Musa?r on the days of Qurbani.
2. Dam-us-Shukr is obligatory on all Hujjaj performing Tamattu' or Qiran Hajj (as in both these types of Hajj, Umrah and Hajj are
combined in one journey). However, this is not obligatory on those performing Ifrad Hajj. Qurbani is compulsory upon a Muqeem (resident) and not on a Musafir (traveller).
Hence, if a person performing Hajj is a Muqeem on any of the days of Hajj, then Qurbani is also compulsory on him. His Qurbani can be performed in the Haram, at home, or anywhere else. His is apart from the Damm sacri?ce of Hajj (for those performing Qiran or Tamattu Hajj) which has to be made in the precincts of the Haram of Makkah.
